Why do I need an SSL certificate for my website?

SSL is essential to protect sensitive information, such as credit card information, that travels across the world's computer network. Even if your website doesn't need encryption, it is advisable that you get one because it provides privacy, authentication and trust. SSL certificates are issued by SSL providers only after several rounds of verification, hence visitors tend to trust those websites that have an SSL as opposed to the ones that don't.
